Too tired to work out on GLP-1: what should you do?

First rule out the stop signs. Then, if it's ordinary tiredness, shrink the session to five minutes or swap it for mobility. Don't push through dizziness or feeling faint.

Tiredness is a listed effect of some GLP-1 medicines: the NHS semaglutide page (reviewed May 15, 2026) includes "feeling tired" among common side effects, and says to speak to a pharmacist or doctor if side effects bother you or don't go away. The NHS also says to keep taking your medicine unless you're advised to stop.

Skip the session and contact your clinician if you have

  • Fainting or dizziness, or a rapid or pounding heartbeat
  • Ongoing pain in the upper left or middle of your stomach that may spread to your back
  • Severe stomach or intestinal problems
  • Decreased urination or swelling of the legs, ankles or feet

From the serious side effects listed on MedlinePlus's semaglutide page (revised May 15, 2026). Get emergency care for trouble breathing or swallowing.

Tired is a reason to go smaller. Dizzy is a reason to stop and call.

Tonight's options, side by side

OptionTimeGood when
Full session20+ minTired from the day, but you feel fine once moving
Quick Movement~5 minLow energy, no warning signs
Recovery & MobilityShort, gentleStiff, sore or queasy-ish
Move it to tomorrow0 minYou'll realistically do it tomorrow
Rest and call0 minAny of the stop signs above

The CDC's adult guidelines ask for muscle-strengthening activity on at least 2 days a week, and add that some physical activity is better than none. One short evening doesn't break a week.

The five-minute version keeps the habit. The plan can carry the rest.

Honest limits

  • Sturdy can't tell you why you're tired. Tiredness has many causes, from sleep to how much you're eating. A 2025 joint advisory in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition notes that nutrient deficiencies from eating less are one challenge of GLP-1 treatment. Persistent tiredness is worth raising with your prescriber.
  • It never advises on medication. Sturdy can hold your own medication records, but never suggests doses or changes schedules.
  • It doesn't decide for you. Difficulty changes only when you choose, and a skipped session is just unfilled.

This is general information, not medical advice. Talk to your clinician. Sturdy is for adults using prescribed GLP-1 or other weight-management medication under medical care.

Low-energy workout questions on GLP-1

Is it normal to feel tired on GLP-1 medication?
Feeling tired is listed by the NHS as a common side effect of semaglutide. If it bothers you or doesn't go away, the NHS says to speak to a pharmacist or doctor, who may be able to help you reduce it.
Should I exercise if I feel tired on Ozempic or Wegovy?
If it's ordinary tiredness with no warning signs, a short, gentle session is usually a reasonable choice. Skip it and contact your clinician if you feel faint, dizzy, have a pounding heartbeat or ongoing stomach pain.
What's the easiest strength workout for a tired evening?
Sit-to-stands from a sturdy chair, wall push-ups and a standing march. One or two easy rounds take about five minutes, and you can stop at any point.
Does skipping one session matter?
One evening rarely matters. What tends to matter is whether the week still has a couple of strength days. Moving the session to tomorrow is a fair choice if you'll really do it.
Is Sturdy free?
Yes, it's free to download. The free version includes weekly planning, all three workout types, the core movement library, sessions up to 30 minutes and protein logging. Sturdy Pro is optional.

A low-energy evening, played out

An illustration, not a real person.

7:45 p.m.

A 10-hour day at the warehouse is done. Sturdy's plan says Standard Strength tonight. Dinner was small, as it has been since the dose went up, and the couch is winning.

7:50 p.m.

Quick check: no dizziness, no stomach pain, just tired. So instead of skipping, it's a shorter swap. In Sturdy, that means a Quick Movement of about five minutes. A sore knee gets flagged before starting, so those movements are swapped out.

7:56 p.m.

Done: sit-to-stands, wall push-ups, a march. The session is marked done. Standard Strength moves to Saturday morning, when there's more in the tank.

Next appointment

The 30-day summary shows sessions, check-ins and a journal note: "Evenings after work feel heavy since the dose change." That's a question for the prescriber, not the app.
